About
Terry Lacy and Eric Sirois created Om Land Yoga in Bangor in 2007 as a Community Center that celebrates the limitless ability of our mind-body connection – for any age and any level of physical health. In 2015, they opened a companion studio in Brewer.
Instructors at Om Land Yoga are devoted to creating an atmosphere in which students are encouraged to creatively explore yoga technique and take a journey toward wellness as they experience the union of movement and breath.
At Om Land Yoga we don’t think you should have to turn yourself into a pretzel. We do think that its physically therapeutic, mind altering, and often fun just to try.

Not necessarily — yoga isn’t better (or worse) than other physical activities. The best exercise is the one you’ll actually do, whether that’s running, swimming, or yoga.
That said, most of our classes also include pranayama (breath work) and mindfulness practices. These elements complement the physical postures (asana) and help integrate body and mind for a more holistic experience.
-
Physically, yoga emphasizes joint mobility and tissue elasticity, often coordinated with conscious breathing. But more importantly, yoga is a practice of self-awareness — helping you understand and unify your body and mind.
-
Honestly, for most people, not significantly. Your flexibility is largely determined by genetics and how active (or inactive) you were during childhood. By adulthood, much of your range of motion has already been set.
-
Because if you don’t stretch, you’ll almost certainly become less flexible. Yoga helps you explore and maintain your body’s true potential — not an idealized version from a magazine cover, but your actual, sustainable range of motion for life.

Give yourself permission to explore. If the first teacher you try doesn’t feel like a good fit, try someone else. Finding the right guide is part of the journey.

No — that’s a common myth. Meditation isn’t about eliminating thoughts or ignoring sensation. It’s about developing awareness of your experience: your breath, your thoughts, your body, and your surroundings. The mind is built to think. Mindfulness meditation teaches you to observe those thoughts, let them pass, and gently return your attention to a steady anchor — like your breath.
