“Now here” is where Melissa strives to be and yoga is her journey to mindfulness, happiness and the practice of “being present” (a challenge everyday).
After college, Melissa worked for nearly 10 years as a medical malpractice paralegal. In 2004, she had her first daughter, Ainsley and in 2007, her second daughter, Delaney. Though dedicated to her career, her heart was not in her “job” after having her girls, so it was an easy choice to become a stay-at-home mother.
Shortly after having her second child, Melissa joined a gym and was introduced to the program “Bodyflow”, a combination of Tai Chi, Yoga and Pilates. Melissa fell in love with the program and decided to get certified. She began teaching Bodyflow in 2008 and found her true passion in Yoga. The physical challenge and benefits of the asana practice was rewarding and invigorating, but it always seemed like something was missing in her practice. . . mindfulness, the philosophy and history of yoga and the world of meditation. Needing to fill this gap and having the desire to further her Yoga practice and teaching, Melissa signed up for the Teacher Training program at Om Land Yoga in 2012.
With the amazing guidance and dedication of the staff at Om Land Yoga as well as the support and love from the trainees, Melissa’s world of Yoga was transformed. Yoga now is not just an opportunity to teach, but it is an opportunity to live in the moment. Yoga has seeped into Melissa’s everyday life and her “job” is now her heart! Each day is a new discovery with an opportunity to share yoga on and off the mat!
When Melissa is not teaching yoga, you can find her and her husband John at various indoor ice arenas, cheering on their little hockey players, Ainsley and Delaney.
